Online Design II: Inspiration Log 1-21

Web Design Trends for 2017:

Designers continue to test different combinations of typefaces together in order to find the right fit for specific audiences, situations, and purposes. Last year, the trend of using soft typefaces that were similar in look and size went out the window. Designers are bored of sticking to the script and want new adverse challenges that will take users on a adventure. Measponte’s site utilizes a bold and intricate serif typeface for their headers while pairing it with a simplistic geometric font for the body text. This creates contrast and increases usability in doing so by differing between the two types of text. In this case, the serif typeface has more authority and control over the webpage while the geometric one takes the place of general text throughout the body of the site.

Oppositely, Cappen utilizes a geometric typeface in their headers accompanied by a serif font in the paragraphs. These decisions are up to the designer and depend on their intended purpose and targeted audience for the content being displayed on the webpage. Needless to say, there is plenty of thought put into the aspects of typography for any given webpage and nothing is selected completely at random. There is always a justified method to the madness so to speak. Each and every design aspect has had various options tested and visualized in order to achieve the most effective outcome.
